Painting is a second career for me. My professional life began as a teacher of deaf children, followed by a position where I created educational materials and provided classroom technology training for teachers. Along the way, I became involved in research about human learning and the acquisition and use of sign language. This led to a PhD, university teaching, and a unique experience with signing chimpanzees. Eventually I settled into a professorship in Education and ended my academic career with positions in university administration.
When I was young, I set up a home studio, enjoyed drawing and experimented with watercolor and acrylic painting. Given subsequent educational, career and family obligations, time for art had always been a luxury -- usually reserved for summers when I could choose more time at home. However, I never lost the desire. Now that I have retired, my energy can finally be devoted to art and indeed, it has become a full time obsession.
I returned to classes, enrolled in a BFA program and gained skill and experience during five years of studio work. Blessed to interact with, learn from, and be inspired by wonderfully talented and generous instructors, students and fellow artists, I have participated in international, national and regional exhibitions and have been awarded various recognitions for my work.
